Welcome to Woolman Herding

We are a new and growing herding instruction facility located in Grandville, Michigan south of Grand Rapids.  We offer all-breed herding instruction for fun or in preparation for herding competition.

Due to mud and longer recovery from foot surgery than I expected, I will not start teaching until sometime in May of 2o12.  Please send me an email if you would like to be placed on my student list for 2012.  I will try to get back to you about classes in early April, 2012.

New students need to have a minimum level of obedience in order to be scheduled for lessons. My suggested program for new students is this: do an instinct test on your dog to see if herding training is a good fit for you and your dog – there is no obedience requirement for the initial instinct test. If you choose to proceed after the instinct test, you can have your dog’s obedience level assessed by me. If you pass, I will start scheduling you for lessons. If you do not, you can continue to work on “off-sheep” obedience and be evaluated again at a future date. I have YouTube examples of what I require with respect to “off-sheep” obedience. Please e-mail us at Woolman Herding if you are interested in getting started in 2012 and I will share the YouTube links and other information.

Woolman Herding Yahoo Group:  If you are interested in taking lessons at the farm, we encourage you to join our Yahoo Group.  The group is intended to keep our current and future students informed of everything farm and lesson related.  You do not need to have yet taken a lesson in order to join the list.  For those who have not yet come out for a lesson, the list will help keep you a part of future lesson planning as well as any outside clinic information that group members post to the list. Other member resources include herding links and suggested training books and DVDs.

Please contact us for information on joining the group.

**Our goal here at Woolman Herding is to help people learn how to train and handle their dogs for herding.  Dogs that come to us for training must be accompanied by their owner/handler for lessons as we do not take in outside dogs only for training.
